UFC Bantamweight Champion Cody ‘No Love’ Garbrandt has been chosen as a coach for The Ultimate Fighter 25 opposite his ex-Team Alpha Male training partner — T.J. Dillashaw.
Sources close with Team Alpha Male, along with several rumored cast members, have confirmed with MMANewsline that Garbrandt and Dillashaw are set to serve as coaches for The Ultimate Fighter Season 25: All Stars, which will feature contestants from past seasons of TUF.
Cody Garbrandt defeated Dominick Cruz via unanimous decision at UFC 207 to become the UFC Bantamweight Champion. ‘No Love’ had previously stated he had no interest in fighting Dillashaw because he “didn’t sell pay-per-views” but later changed his tune after some trash talk between the former teammates.
T.J Dillashaw also competed at UFC 207, as beat Bantamweight contender John Lineker in dominant fashion to prove he deserves another shot at the 135-lb belt that Dominick Cruz took from him last January.
As MMANewsline first revealed last month, 17 former UFC fighters no longer under contract as well as two active UFC roster members were a part of the 23-man TUF tryouts that were held in December.
The full list of December tryout attendees include: Johnny Nunez, Dominic Waters, Jesse Taylor, Joseph Stevenson, Gilbert Smith, Julian Lane, Edward Gordon, Dhiego Lima, Kajan Johnson, James Krause, Zak Cummings, Mehdi Baghdad, Gerald Harris, Justin Edwards, Seth Baczynski, Michael Ricci, Jamie Yager, Hector Cervantes, Edward Ellis, Junie Browning, Ramsey Nijem, Hayden Hassan, and Thomas Gallicchio.
MMAJunkie first reported in October that TUF Season 25 would feature an ‘All Star’ cast.
MMAjunkie today confirmed “The Ultimate Fighter 25” is currently casting for a January filming start, with the show expected to debut on FS1 in April.
While exact details of the season are still undetermined, UFC officials told MMAjunkie that welterweights are likely to be featured on “TUF 25.” And rather than bring in a cast of unknowns, the promotion currently is targeting a group of “all-stars” to compete on the show, including UFC veterans and former contestants on previous editions of “The Ultimate Fighter.”
Although no official announcement has been made, one can assume the winner of The Ultimate Fighter 25 will be granted a UFC Welterweight Championship opportunity. Garbrandt vs. Dillashaw are expected to compete for the UFC Bantamweight Championship after their TUF coaching stint has concluded, although no official date has been set.
