As Karim Zidan (@ZidanSports) first reported, Khabib’s father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, responded this morning to a social media comment asking about his son’s next bout: Khabib's father & longtime coach Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov just confirmed Tony Ferguson as his son’s next opponent in a post on social media. pic.twitter.com/SeT66cJGex — Karim Zidan (@ZidanSports) January 8, 2017 @Hakerden97 Indeed but also has a track record of being entirely correct. He is Khabib’s most trusted adviser too. — Karim Zidan (@ZidanSports) January 8, 2017 UFC 209 is set to take place on March 4 and the Interim UFC Lightweight Championship will be on the line as Nurmagomedov faces ‘El Cucuy’ at 155-pounds. Nurmagomedov (MMA record 24-0) had previously refused an interim lightweight championship bout with current UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo, as the Russian had always intended to fight Tony Ferguson. After the UFC declined Ferguson’s request to be paid as much his Russian counterpart, Khabib offered then Tony $200k of his own money to accept a lightweight fight. Last Monday however, Ferguson declined the offer on “The MMA Hour,” stating that it was the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s duty to justly compensate him — not Khabib’s. Ferguson now though appears to have settled his beef with the UFC, as both he and Nurmagomedov took to twitter this week to announce UFC returns — although each man fell short of naming an opponent or return date. Who do you have winning on the Interim Lightweight Championship on March 4 at UFC 209?
