Esther Lin (@allelbows) captured the moment T.J. Dillashaw broke John Lineker’s jaw during their bantamweight bout at UFC 207 last Friday night. Lineker will be out of action until June 29 unless he is cleared by an ear, nose, & throat specialist or oral surgeon beforehand.
Lineker continued to fight for two rounds after the jaw-breaking head kick, but ultimately lost a unanimous decision as Dillashaw won the bout (30-26, 30-26, 30-26).
Dillashaw (MMA record 14-3) has now won two fights in a row since losing the UFC Bantamweight Championship to Dominick Cruz at UFC Fight Night 81 last January.
Even though Dillashaw handily beat Lineker, he slid down down to #2 (was #1 before 207) on the Official UFC Bantamweight Rankings because recently dethroned champ Dominick Cruz now sits at #1.
Dillashaw will now turn his attention to newly crowned UFC Bantamweight Champion Cody ‘No Love’ Garbrandt. The pair used to train together at Team Alpha Male, but Dillashaw recently left with his striking coach, Duane ‘Bang’ Ludwig, to go train with Elevation Fight Team. T.J. has since had bad blood with Urijah Faber and Team Alpha Male
“If he doesn’t get the shot, then this whole thing is rigged,” said a smirking Dana White on the FS1 UFC 207 post-fight show — reiterating Dillashaw’s post-fight comments.
“So I think I’m going to give the rematch to Dominick Cruz just to make him right.”
Do you expect Dillashaw to get a crack at the new UFC Bantamweight Champion in his next fight?
