Ahead of the Tyron Woodley vs. Stephen Thompson Welterweight Championship rematch next Saturday in Las Vegas, UFC Senior Vice President of Talent Relations,Sean Shelby, and VP of Talent Relations, Mick Maynard, sat down with Jon Anik to discuss the main card of UFC 209.

“Woodley in the blink of an eye can turn a fight on its side,” said Sean Shelby. “I think Wonderboy has more to learn actually — ’cause I consider him more of a baby in the sport than Woodley, but I’m just excited for this fight,” Shelby continued.

Woodley vs. Wonderboy 1 served as the co-main event of UFC 205 and ended as a draw, although there was some controversy when the decision was announced.

“Woodley’s one of those guys that if it was a video game, and you could control him, you know that’s a guy, you wouldn’t lose…” - Sean Shelby

The trio also discussed the co-main event of UFC 209, Khabib ‘The Eagle’ Nurmagomedov vs. ‘Tony Ferguson’ for the Interim UFC Lightweight Championship, a bout they weren’t always sure would take place.

The winner of that fight will likely face UFC Lightweight Champ, Conor McGregor, in his return bout later this year, as Dana White recently revealed that negotiations for ‘The Notorious’ to fight Floyd Mayweather haven’t really gone anywhere.

“I expect Conor’s next fight to be in the UFC, in mixed martial arts — the winner of Khabib and Ferguson,’ White told TMZ earlier this week.

UFC 209 takes places on Saturday, March 4.
