MarQ Piocos is on assignment for MMA Newsline from WombatSports.com - one of the best sites for Women’s Combat coverage on the internet.

When the list of UFC fighters that were tested by USADA came up for, it revealed a new signee by happenstance.

San Diego’s Pearl Gonzalez is the newest prospect to the promotion, and is a star in the making. Originally from Chicago, the pankration specialist is currently training with fellow UFC fighter Liz Carmouche and Bellator’s Ilima-Lei MacFarlane at Team Hurricane Awesome’s 10th Planet facility.

Gonzalez has had quite a run in MMA. Originally fighting at flyweight, she won the XFC’s 125 belt back in 2013 over current UFC fighter Cortney Casey. She has won six straight with 5 by finishes; her past two wins at 115. She is currently 6-1

Gonzalez was recovering from injury as Wombat Sports talked to her back in October, and was looking for her next step in her career. Little did we know that would be the UFC.

Gonzalez talks about her humble beginnings, working with her gym in San Diego, and her dedication to sharing her experiences with kids and adults alike.
